Frequently Asked Questions

You probably have many questions about counseling. Sometimes it’s hard to take that first step! Here are a few answers to common questions clients ask. Feel free to call me at (818) 631-9608 with other questions!

WHO DO YOU SEE IN YOUR PRIVATE PRACTICE?

I work with kids, teens, families, and women.

WHAT APPROACHES DO YOU USE?

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Each person is unique so one approach might fit for one person and not another. That’s why my approach is individualized to YOU. That being said, I am a lifelong learner and am committed to providing my clients with the best approaches available. Here are some of the approaches I use: art therapy, sandtray therapy, play therapy, yoga therapy, mindfulness, guided imagery, narrative therapy, psychodynamic, attachment focused, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), internal family systems (IFS), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and restoration therapy.

I'M A CHRISTIAN, AND MY FAITH IS IMPORTANT TO ME. WHAT DOES CHRISTIAN COUNSELING LOOK LIKE?

I too am a Christian, and my faith informs the way I view and practice counseling. God is the ultimate Counselor, and he is the one who brings about healing, change, and growth. I believe God uses counselors to help people experience the freedom, love, and joy he offers. Sharing openly about your faith and your feelings toward God is not only helpful but vital. I create a safe space for you to talk about all aspects of your faith journey--the good and the not so good--and where you’re headed and where you want to be. I rely on the Holy Spirit to guide and lead me so that our work together will reflect his purposes for your life and ultimately his Kingdom.

DO I HAVE TO BE A CHRISTIAN?

No, you don’t have to be a Christian to work with me. In fact, I have many clients with differing faiths and beliefs. I offer you the same love and compassion, regardless of your personal beliefs. I don’t push my faith on any of my clients, but I want you to know that I’m coming from a Christian worldview so that you don’t feel surprised or deceived. My stance is that I meet you where you are at, with acceptance and non-judgment.

WHEN DO YOU SEE CLIENTS?

I have day and evening appointments available.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION AND HOW OFTEN WILL I SEE YOU?

A single session is 50 minutes, and a double session is 100 minutes. I meet with my clients once or twice a week. I will make a recommendation based on your particular situation and needs.

DO YOU ACCEPT MY INSURANCE?

I am not on any insurance panels, which means that I am an out of network provider for PPO insurance plans. I can provide a monthly superbill, which you can submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully to verify specifics of your particular insurance coverage and ask the following questions: Do I have mental health benefits? What is my deductible and has it been met? How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover? How much does my plan cover for an out of network provider? What is the coverage amount per therapy session? Is pre-authorization required? I have found that working with insurance companies leads to a third party dictating the duration and type of treatment. In most cases, insurance requires a mental health diagnosis, which is not appropriate in all cases and can have long standing consequences. Working without insurance increases your privacy and gives you the utmost choice and control over your healing process.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

I accept cash, check, and all credit cards.

HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

Making an appointment is easy. You have 3 options: 1) Fill out the form at the bottom of this page, 2) Call me at (818) 631-9608, 3) Email me at nadia@wildhopecounseling.com

WHAT IF I’M STILL NOT SURE COUNSELING IS FOR ME?

Going to counseling the first time (or returning to counseling) can be scary. You may not know what to expect, you may worry about being labeled as “crazy,” or you may have only seen images of counseling on television. I will do my best to walk you through the process and answer any questions that you have. My hope is that you come to counseling by choice and that you have a genuine desire to make changes in your life. Your first session is a get-to-know-you session that allows us both to determine whether counseling is a good fit and whether I’m the counselor for you. You are under no obligation to continue with counseling with me if it doesn’t feel like a good fit for you.

I’m HERE to help every step of the way.
